Femmes Fatales

A Femme Fatale is an alluring and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising and dangerous situations. She is an archetypal character of literature and art with an ability to entrance and hypnotize her male victim that is almost supernatural.

Femme Fatale or "deadly woman" uses her exceptional charms and cunning coercion to achieve her purpose. She has the energy to make a beating heart stop in amazement of her power.

Femmes Fatales is a classical chamber ensemble featuring Jami Tyzik, Mezzo-soprano with violin and piano. Our inspiration comes from these powerful characters whose roots begin in ancient Mythology. We seek to develop this woman and to explore her various charms through songs from various periods, styles and languages. The initial inspiration was the beloved character of Carmen, a passionate gypsy, with immense powers of seduction and manipulation. So many composers from Dvorak and Brahms, to Bizet and Ravel, have sought to explore the ideas of this intoxicating character. Femmes Fatales captures the spirit of these mythological women with Spanish songs and passionate gypsy tunes influenced by centuries of folklore.

Femmes Fatales explores the classical interpretation of this captivating figure in vocal and instrumental music. By developing these passionate women through a dramatic musical arc, Femmes Fatales captures the spirit of these seductive and mysterious characters with songs influenced by centuries of folklore. With new arrangements of beloved favorites and fiery adaptations of little known musical gems, Femmes Fatales brings these exciting women to life.
